About Tri-Tronics Electronic Collars

Tri-Tronics is not only the oldest manufacturer of remote trainers, they are also the only company which still manufactures in the United States. Their reputation for quality and reliability is world-renowned - their name is synonymous with electronic dog training. And, the innovative products they've come out with in the last few years make them hard to beat from any perspective. They've greatly reduced the size of their transmitters and collar receivers and now the vast majority of their models can be upgraded by the user to make them multi-dog units. All have an incredibly quick two-hour recharge time, and perhaps the feature we personally find so special is the fact that they can be left on their chargers indefinitely without harm - you're always ready to go, whether it's tomorrow or two months from now.

We are a stocking dealer with many tens of thousand of dollars of product in inventory at all times. Typically, we only need to do drop ships with the G2 non-expandable units.

All Tri-Tronics collar receivers are serial numbered. At Altmoor, we are one of the very few dealers who tracks the serials of the units we sell. If your dog or collar are found and the finder contacts Tri-Tronics, they'll be in touch with us, and we'll be in touch with you. We've reunited dogs with their owners this way many times.

You may notice that some of our competitors offer two, three, or more dog units. Tri-Tronics no longer makes such units, so they are either selling discontinued product or being a little misleading. Tri-Tronics continues to make a few of their full-size models available as one-dog only units (these are G2's which do not show the EXP suffix). These have their place, such as with police K-9 trainers or with anyone who is certain they will only ever have one dog. They are $20 less expensive than their EXP counterparts, but in such little demand that anymore we only drop ship them directly from the manufacturer. All other Tri-Tronics units (Sport G3's and the full-size G2 EXP's) are now user-expandable as to the number of dogs that can be controlled by one transmitter. Their Trashbreaker (two-mile range) and their Classic 70 (one-mile range) can control up to six dogs. All of the other units can control up to three dogs.

We should point out some details about Tri-Tronics expandable e-collars. The base one-dog system always comes with three collar straps, so that you have two spares should you wish to add up to two more collar receivers. It also comes with charging components for a one-dog system. When you purchase an additional collar receiver, that's all you get - no strap, no power supply, no charging cradle. While we personally like to keep all components on charge simultaneously so that we're always ready to go, this method does involve extra costs. To charge extra receivers simultaneously, you'll need a receiver (RX) charging cradle for each additional collar ($20), as well as another power supply to get current to the cradle ($7 to $9). We always purchase a dual lead power supply, since it's only $2 more than the one lead version. Tri-Tronics feels that they can keep the price down on each collar by providing straps with the basic one-dog unit and that many folks would rather avoid or defer the cost of additional charging gear since everything charges in just two hours and a charge typically lasts through a week or more of normal use. We should also add that if you're getting an EXP model that goes up to six dogs, once you exceed three collars, you'll also need to buy a Strap Pack, which contains three straps properly color-coded to match your transmitter.

Now, as to which model you need, things get a little involved. Here, let's just say that the vast majority of pet owners will be more than satisfied with the Sport Basic G3. If you are contemplating competition with your dog or any degree of intermediate to advanced training, then the Sport Combo G3 is for you. If you need a one-mile range and top of the line capabilities, the Pro 100 EXP or Pro 500 EXP are the best there is. The "Features" section just below our model listing will explain a little more. But, if you'd like to read more about the basis for these opinions and specific suggestions for those with other needs, please see our Selecting section.

When you add a G2 EXP or G3 Sport system to your shopping cart you'll see a list of accessories
such as additional collar receivers, receiver/beeper combos, accessory beepers, and holsters.
If you'd rather pick and choose on your own, and add items such as charging components for
extra collars, please help yourself from our Tri-Tronics parts and accessories section.

Features of G2, G2 EXP, and G3 Sport lines:

Tri-Tronics introduced their G2 line of remote trainers, called G2 for Generation 2, in mid-2005. Model names, such as Pro 100, remained the same, except that they have the G2 suffix. The G2 EXP line and the G3 Sport series came along in September, 2006.

From an Altmoor perspective, the most important G2 changes were that the collar receivers are smaller and lighter - just 2/3 the size of the prior models - and that all of the full-size transmitters (tube-style Pro/Field/Classic models) can control the G2 compatible Accessory Beeper - of special interest to pointing dog owners, and something we've requested for years.

Also new to the G2's was a fantastic charging system - recharge in just 2 hours and leave on the charger indefinitely without overcharging.

With the introduction of the EXP models (G2 Pro, Field, Classic, Flyway, Upland and Trashbreaker) there will no longer be multi-dog units. Instead, for $20 more the initial system you buy will be field expandable to handle from 3 to 6 dogs depending on the model, with the purchase of additional collars. Single dog, non-expandable systems remain in the G2 line-up.

Charging equipment does not come with the additional EXP collars. Tri-Tronics feels that most customers would rather save money and be content with the 2-hour recharge time.

G2 Accessory Beepers work with G2 full size models, G2 EXP models and the Sport Upland G3. A beeper is included with Upland G2, Upland G2 EXP, and Sport Upland G3 e-collars. When adding collar receivers, you have your choice of an EXP receiver, or an EXP receiver and beeper combo. Or you can add an accessory beeper to an EXP collar at any time.

TRI-TRONICS G2 and G3 PARTS AND ACCESSORIES:

See the Tri-Tronics Part and Accessory Selector .

The G2 series was introduced during mid-2005. With the exception of holsters and dummy collars, the units come with everything you need to operate them. (We feel that there's no reason to get a dummy collar unless you're going to train more than one dog with a one-dog e-collar - just use the real collar, turned off if you'd like.) With the exception of the Sport holster - which fits both G2 and all previous Sport models - all of the components listed here can only be used with the G2 series, not with any prior model lines. There is no holster planned for the Sport G3's. Another - temporary - exception is the Mighty Micro Antenna: it is an old style Mighty Micro with an adapter for the G2's (not for use with G3's).Since the G2's charge so quickly and can be left on their chargers, for normal applications we see no reason to purchase extra batteries with your e-collar. The Power Supply units, which you need to supply electric from a wall socket to the charging cradle, come as either one or two lead units. Either type can be used to supply current to either type of charging cradle. As of February 06, Euro (220) chargers are still not available. If you're ordering a new remote trainer, you'll have the opportunity to order a holster at a reduced price during checkout. If you're in dire need of something we list as not available, you might want to try calling Tri-Tronics at 800-456-4343 for the most current availability information.
